The Harvard Travellers Club was formed in 1902 with the wish of bringing together men interested in travel, entertaining them with narratives of distant lands and seas by members and invited speakers, and contributing in this and other ways to "the promotion of intelligent travel and exploration", which is the declared object of the Club. Although the Golden Age of geographical exploration during which the club was founded is now over, the spirit behind the founding of the Club remains. Today, members continue to commit themselves to intelligent travel and enjoy sharing and learning of one another's travels.
Affiliation with Harvard is not required for membership which today includes both men and women. The club holds 8 meetings each year on the 2nd Tuesdays of October through April and the 3rd Tuesday of May. The meetings consist of a social hour followed by dinner and a presentation by an invited speaker.
The Club also supports worthy travel related research and exploration through its Permanent Fund.
